Welcome to Trent PTS

Working in partnership with the

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

MBCT focuses on preventing further episodes of depression, therefore, if you have already had a few episodes of depression and received one-to-one therapy, this could be the best option for you.

MBCT is taught in a group of 8-16 people over 8 weeks (either over video call or face to face). Each session is 90 minutes and you will need to do up to 50 minutes of home practice each day. It is important that you can attend all 8 sessions, as each week builds on the learning of the previous week. It is a teaching group where you will learn new skills to help manage common difficulties, rather than a therapy group where you will talk about your individual problems.

You will learn:

  • How to engage in Mindful Meditations and from Cognitive Behavioural exercises, which together encourage a different response to normal triggers for depression
  • How to break the cycle of negative thoughts which are often identified as maintaining depression
  • How to stay in touch with the present moment and let go of dwelling on the past or worrying about the future
  • How to develop a greater awareness of thoughts and their impact
  • How best to take care of yourself when you notice a dip in mood to prevent the spiral into depression
